Your information and POPIA
Mhlongo's Laundry respects your privacy and processes personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
What we keep
- Your name and surname, cell number and (if you give it) email address.
- Your laundry orders: the garments you bring, their condition, dates, payments and messages we send you.
- Laundry preferences you ask us to remember (for example “no fabric softener”).
- Ratings and comments you choose to give after collecting. A review is only shown on our website if you tick the box allowing it, and then only with your first name and surname initial.
Why we keep it
- To process your laundry and count every garment in and out.
- To tell you when your laundry is ready and remind you to collect it (WhatsApp, SMS or email).
- To keep accurate payment and business records.
We ask for your consent when we register you. We do not sell or share your information for marketing.
Who can see it
Only our staff, each with their own login, and only for running the laundry. Our website and database are hosted by secure cloud providers whose servers may be outside South Africa; they process the information only for us, under agreements that require them to protect it. Messages may pass through the WhatsApp, SMS or email service used to send them.
Tracking your order online
Order details are only shown when both the order number and your cell number match. Repeated wrong attempts are blocked for a while. We keep an anonymous fingerprint of those attempts (not your IP address) for up to 30 days.
How long we keep it
Order and payment records are kept for as long as the law requires for business records (normally five years). You can ask us to remove your personal details when you have no open orders and nothing is owed: we then delete your name, cell number, email and notes, and keep only the order and payment records without your name.
Your rights
You may ask to see the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or object to us using it. You may also complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.
